Modified maple wood is an environmentally friendly, patented process that uses a bio-based liquid to improve the properties of sustainable softwoods. The process continuously modifies the cell structure of the wood, giving it excellent properties and a rich brown color. There are different wood modification methods, all of which permanently change the structure of the cell walls. These include methods such as heat treatment, acetylation and polymer grafting. The modified wood we use is produced by forming solid furan polymers that anchor themselves in the cells of the wood. This increases the stability, durability and hardness of the wood. The process is based on impregnation with furfuryl alcohol, a liquid produced from agricultural bioproducts. In this way, a waste product of plant origin is used to give another plant product - namely wood - increased strength and durability. 1. Step 1: Impregnation. Impregnation is the process of soaking the wood in a bio-based liquid. During impregnation, the furfuryl alcohol produced from the bio-based liquid is fixed in the wood to make it dimensionally stable. Step 2: Pickling and drying. After impregnation, the wood is heat-dried, which causes the furfuryl alcohol to polymerize. This step is called hardening. The polymers created in the wood cells by this process are very stable and cannot break down or leave the wood. Step 3: Modified maple wood. After treatment, the wood's cell walls are approximately 50% thicker due to the stable, fixed polymers. The permanent modification of the wood cell ensures outstanding stability, maximum hardness and a guaranteed long service life of the wood product. The wood offers a high level of safety, as it rarely splinters and does not contain toxins or chemicals. In addition, modified maple wood is resistant to rot, fungi and other wood-destroying microorganisms. It is a low-maintenance material that, apart from normal cleaning, does not require any further treatment, such as oiling or other impregnating solutions.
